Michael Moritz is an avid genealogist with over 15 years of family research experience, having performed research for hundreds of individuals, with ancestry in over 35 countries and records written in over 10 languages. His research has been featured on the PBS show Finding Your Roots and was cited in The New York Times.

Michael specializes in United States and European Research. He also has a special expertise in Ashkenazi Jewish genealogy, assessing Jewish ancestries in, among others, Germany, the Austro-Hungarian Empire (including Galicia, Bukovina, Vienna and Hungary), the Russian Empire (including Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Latvia), Romania, Poland, and Israel.

Michael is also the Director of JewishGen's Romania Research Division and a frequent contributor to its Germany Research Division, and he has volunteered to transcribe thousands of vital records for those groups as well. Michael also moderates groups for those with Jewish ancestry from Hamburg, Germany and Iasi, Romania. He is additionally the US research consultant for a Lithuanian genealogist, historian and tour guide to aid Lithuanian Americans of all backgrounds in locating their families' towns of origin in Lithuania.

Michael has a special interest in European ancestry and previously published an academic paper on individuals seeking to acquire citizenship of European Union nations based on their ancestry, which has been downloaded over 8,500 times.
